The Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning is compiling a list of events and activities to include in its “Winter in Oswego County†brochure.
The brochure will list tourism events in Oswego County that take place between Nov. 1, 2010 and March 31, 2011.
The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau has limited funding available for a final round of the 2010 mini-grant program. Funding will be awarded to not-for-profit community organizations that provide non-sectarian activities for youth during hours when school is not in session. Mini-grant funds are also available for projects that address the needs of at-risk youth and/or address risk issues youth experience.
The Oswego AmeriCorps Program has been awarded funding for the 2010-2011 program year and is now accepting applications for positions that will start September 1. AmeriCorps is a national service program that addresses needs in local communities.
The Village, SUNY Oswego’s new townhouse community, invites local residents to an open house featuring tours from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19.
Martha Powers, 69; of Palermo, NY died Friday at Oswego Hospital after a long illness.
Appropriately enough, it was raining cats and dogs at the start of the Oswego County Humane Society’s Tenth Annual Golf Tournament on July 16th at Greenview Country Club in West Monroe.
For those interested in expanding or starting a small business in Oswego County, the next Micro-Enterprise Program small business training class is scheduled to begin Saturday, Sept. 18 and run each Saturday until Oct. 16. The classes will be held at the SUNY Oswego Phoenix Center, Oswego County Industrial Park (off of exit 14 on 481), Phoenix, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Fulton’s Jazz Fest scored perfect weather for its 2010 run. That, and some top rate bands and food brought large crowds to the festival, held on the city field behind the Fulton Community Center.

Two groups of participants from Oswego Industries, Inc.’s LIFE program have been studying karate for several months with Sensei Jim Munger at LaVallee’s Black Belt USA Champions at Great Northern Mall in Clay.
This 3-hour on-farm meeting will provide attendees with the latest information on insects, diseases, and cultural practices, such as IPM, that can be utilized to help reduce pesticide use and improve yields in soybean fields and storage facilities.
