Cathcart Pleads Not Guilty to Manslaughter Charge

The Phoenix teen arrested and accused of committing a fatal stabbing at a party in Hannibal in October pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and assault charges at Oswego County Court on Dec 15. Markee L. Cathcart, 19, allegedly stabbed Sean D. Leonard, 23, at a party outside a residence at 99 Kellogg Road in Hannibal in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 24.

Community Comes Together for 12th Annual Christmas in Mexico Festivities

Christmas came early for the Mexico community thanks to the Greater Mexico Chamber of Commerce, Friends of Oswego and a number of local sponsors and businesses. The Christmas in Mexico event ran three days long and included a Christmas parade, the annual tree lighting, an Ugly Sweater Dash, visits with Santa, local shopping, a holiday train display, free trolley and carriage rides and much more.

The suspect of an assault at SUNY Oswego has been apprehended, identified and is pending charges according to a campus wide announcement delivered around 10:30 tonight (December 9.) The suspect, identified as Eric DeBrose, was allegedly involved in an assault against a Seneca Hall resident during the afternoon hours earlier the same day.

SUNY Oswego Urges Students to Be Aware with Potentially Armed Assault Suspect on Campus

UPDATE: The suspect is believed to no longer be on campus. SUNY Oswego sent out a mass email to all students today at approximately 4 p.m. in regards to an assault suspect on campus that could potentially be armed. The email addressed only the basic information available, informing students there has been an assault in Seneca Hall and the suspect is believed to be at large and possibly armed.

Varsity Winter Sports Weekly Scores for Fulton Raiders and Oswego Buccaneers

The Fulton Raiders kicked off their season recently and played host to many home openers for the winter sports season. At the end of this week, each varsity winter sports team has made their home debut and has at least one victory under their belt. The Oswego Buccaneers kicked off the winter sports season as well, although some teams still await their home debut in the upcoming week. See the recap of scores below.

Fulton Gets Festive at 12th Annual Tree Lighting

The city of Fulton got into the Christmas spirit during its annual tree lighting jubilee. Held at the municipal building both inside and outside, as well as at the Public Library, a crowd of considerable size showed up to partake in the festivities. Superintendent of Parks and Recreation, Barry Ostrander, said the event had an excellent turnout this year. “This is probably the biggest one yet. We’ve had good turnouts in the past but this appears to be the biggest,” said Ostrander.

Fulton City Council Adopts 2016 Budget with 4.3% Tax Increase

The Fulton city common council approved the final 2016 budget after a public hearing held Tuesday. Starting the budget process with a 10% tax increase in the first draft; the mayor, councilmen and city clerk/chamberlain worked through the weeks to go over the budget meticulously and make any cuts to lower the tax increase as much as possible. In its final and approved stage, the $15.9 million budget brings forth an overall increase of $261,091 from the 2015 budget and a 4.3% tax increase.

Friends, family and loved ones of 23-year-old Sean Leonard encourage the community to join them at Lakeview Lanes of Fulton for a fundraiser benefit in memory of his life this Saturday. Leonard unexpectedly lost his life due to a stabbing incident in Hannibal on October 24. This Saturday, just over a month since his passing, Lakeview Lanes will host a fundraiser benefit from noon to 9 p.m. in remembrance of Leonard.
