Assault suspect, Eric DeBrose is apprehended in the city of Oswego after a citizen tip led SUNY Oswego Police to his whereabouts.
UPDATE 6:45 p.m.
A SUNY campus alert system has informed students that the suspect is believed to now be off campus, and this information has been confirmed by a University Police Dispatcher.
“At this time the suspect has not yet been apprehended,” said the dispatcher. “He is believed to be off campus.”
The dispatcher was unable to provide any more information at this time regarding the assault.
However, another source says the assault reportedly happened this afternoon when a young woman said she was held at knife point in her room for about four hours by a man she knew.
The young woman reportedly escaped at 3:15 p.m. and reported that the man was not a student at SUNY Oswego.
While classes ended for the semester as of Friday (Dec. 4), many students are still residing in the university dorm halls as they await final exams and December graduation set to happen this weekend.

OSWEGO, NY – SUNY Oswego sent out a mass email to all students today at approximately 4 p.m. in regards to an assault suspect on campus that could potentially be armed.
The email addressed only the basic information available, informing students there has been an assault in Seneca Hall and the suspect is believed to be at large and possibly armed.
The warning email includes a picture of the suspect and encourages students to be safe if they become aware of the suspect saying, “Do not approach the suspect, who is male, 6 feet tall, and about 190 pounds.”
Instead, the email included instructions with what to do if a students believes they have any information on the subject: “Be vigilant and call 315-312-5555 if you have information. If you are on campus, follow instructions of emergency personnel and remain alert for your own safety.”
Seneca Hall is a residential community at SUNY Oswego that houses about 600 residents on 10 floors, the largest population on campus according to the college’s website.
Located at 47 Cayuga Circle the building is on the West Campus, located next to the school tennis courts.
Oswego County Today is awaiting more information from University Police and will be providing updates as soon as they become available.
