Mittens wishes that his name was not Mittens. He wishes it was “Dude.” But what can he do? He has been Mittens for the last 12 years, named after his big feet, not his coolness. He is part of the Boylston Sweet 16.
Recently a group made up of the WRVO news director and SUNY Oswego communication studies faculty members discussed ways to identify what is fake news and how to stem the flow of fake news in today’s social media world. The onus is on the “consumer,” according to the panel. If an article seems to be too good to be true, too crazy to be true than it probably isn’t true, they said.

At about 8:47 a.m. today (Feb. 19), members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a fire on Crim Road in Parish. The caller stated that there was a man yelling from a window that he and his wife were trapped inside. Members arrived on the scene and attempted entry into the residence but were unsuccessful due to heavy smoke and flames. The male victim has been identified, the female victim hasn’t. The investigation is continuing.
As part of their efforts to make the penal law more responsive and realistic, Assemblymen Bob Oaks, Will Barclay and Senator Pattie Ritchie have introduced legislation (Assembly bill 5268 and Senate bill 4022) that would add a new section of law that creates the Class E felony crime of aggravated assault in the third degree. The impetus for this law was an assault on a female bartender in Oswego Town in July of 2016.
The mayor and chamberlain were authorized to execute all documents necessary pertaining to the State and Municipal Facilities Program for the restoration of the Oswego West Pierhead Lighthouse as well as improvements to Breitbeck and Shapiro parks and the expansion of the Animal Control Center.
At its meeting Tuesday night, the Common Council authorized the mayor to sign all documents necessary to accept the proposal submitted by Wladis Law Firm for revisions to the Zoning Ordinance and further authorized the transfer of funds for same. It will be the first significant update to the ordinance since 1980.

Fluffy is part of the, we hope soon to be famous Boylston Sweet 16, a group of cats of all ages and descriptions rescued by the Oswego County Humane Society and United Friend of Homeless Animals after the roof of their house collapsed during the recent heavy snowstorm.
