Committee Discusses Rental Fee Hike, Takes No Action

Mayor William Barlow proposed increasing the rental permit fee in the city of Oswego to $150 for a three-year period, five times more expensive than the current $30 fee. It will help support the Code Enforcement Department and improve the quality of life in Oswego’s neighborhoods, he said. However, some detractors argue the opposite will happen. Landlords will not want to spend money on repairs after paying more for the permits, they said. And, it will likely cause landlords to raise the rent they charge, they added.

Former Pennellville Fire Chief Pleads Guilty

A Comptroller’s audit and investigation exposed $2,950 gasoline theft from the Pennellville Volunteer Fireman’s Association. Former Fire Chief Duane Royal pleaded guilty Wednesday (Sept. 14) to petit larceny for stealing VFA gas for his private process-serving business, State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli said.

State Attorney General Announces Arrests Of Former Aides Who Allegedly Took Photos, Videos Of Nursing Home Residents

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman today announced that, in two distinct cases, four former nursing home aides who were paid to provide care to elderly residents and residents with substantial disabilities, were arrested and arraigned on September 13 before Oswego City Court Judge James Metcalf. All four defendants were charged with felonies and misdemeanors relating to allegedly taking still and video digital images of residents in undignified poses at two nursing homes in Oswego.
