At its meeting this week, the Common Council authorized a public hearing regarding the proposed amendments to the Code of the City of Oswego, Chapter 257, Vehicles and Traffic Ordinance, Section 257-27, Winter Parking Restrictions. The public hearing is set for Jan. 25 at 7:10 p.m. in the Council Chamber of City Hall.
Linda Windey, a Parish, NY, native who was staying with relatives in Ohio due to her temporary job with eBay, purchased three Powerball tickets at Cincinnati South Travel Center in Walton, Kentucky. She discovered one of them matched five numbers in Wednesday’s record $1.6 billion drawing – earning her $1 million.

SUNY Oswego’s Jan. 29 Martin Luther King Jr. celebration will feature Bernice A. King, daughter of Martin Luther King Jr. and chief executive of the King Center, and Grammy-winning gospel singer Smokie Norful. The college’s 27th annual celebration of the civil rights leader’s life and legacy will begin with Bernice King’s keynote talk at 6 p.m. in Sheldon Hall ballroom. Norful and a gospel choir will perform an 8 p.m. concert in the same location.

The U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) announced Scott Ciesla, director of bands at Oswego High School, as the recipient of the 2016 National Band Director of the Year Award. The announcement was made at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Awards Show in San Antonio, Texas.
