At Monday night’s Administrative Services Committee, councilors approved a request to move funds from the General Fund into the Community Development Office. The infusion of cash would enable the department to move forward while exploring opportunities for creating efficiencies and improving operational performance as it moves into fiscal year 2016, the director said.
Health officials suggest people take it a little easier in the heat and humidity. Those most at risk for heat-related illness are young children and the elderly. Those doing any type of strenuous activity in the heat and humidity should be aware of the weather conditions. And listen to what their body is telling them. If you suffer from cramps, get into the shade and rest for a while and have some water to drink.
State Police were called to the Wal-Mart parking lot, East Avenue in Central Square for a reported children left inside a vehicle. When troopers and EMS personnel arrived, they located a silver van with a 4-year-old girl sleeping and a 9-year-old boy inside sweating heavily, according to troopers.

The USTA Tennis Program teaches basic tennis skills and gives youth a chance to get outside and exercise, said the program’s coordinator. A carnival was held to give them a chance to show off what they’ve learned – and win some prizes in the process.

Aerial spraying of the Toad Harbor – Big Bay Swamp area in Oswego County is cancelled this evening, Friday, Aug. 14, due to weather conditions. Weather permitting, aerial spraying will take place Sunday, Aug. 16, between 6 and 9 p.m.
