In a brief reorganizational meeting Tuesday morning, the Oswego school board appointed a new slate of officers for the 2014-2015 school year. Kathleen Allen, the board’s president for the 2013-2014 academic year, was re-appointed president for the coming school year. Lynda Sereno was named VP. Dr. Dean Goewey was approved as the district’s new assistant superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, replacing the retired Cathy Chamberlain.

UPDATE: An industrial accident at Novelis has reportedly claimed the life of a contractor. He has been identified as a Phoenix man. The accident happened around noon June 30 at the plant’s recycling area.

After 13 years of school, it took about 28 minutes Saturday to turn the OHS Class of 2014 into freshly minted graduates. At 10:47 a.m., diplomas were received by the first batch of students. The clock above center ice clicked to 11:11 a.m. as Meggie Zhang accepted the final diploma.
Samantha Familo has been named to the Dean’s List for the Spring 2014 semester at SUNY Cortland. Familo, a graduate of Hannibal High School, is majoring in Athletic Training.
Members of the Transfer Station Advisory Committee got some of their questions answered Thursday night. And, they came up with a few new ones as well. Only 15 percent of the Oswego County households us the transfer stations, according to Legislature Chairman Kevin Gardner. That means 85 percent of county residents are subsidizing a service they do not use, he added.
The British Flag was lowered and the American Flag was raised over historic Fort Ontario as a large audience, mostly elementary students, learned about the history of the flag and the fort, too.
