The county legislature recently and city council on Tuesday night both presented proclamations recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month and honoring those who work to prevent such abuse. The goal of Domestic Violence Awareness Month is to raise public awareness of the epidemic of domestic violence in our country and to educate individuals on the impact and prevention of domestic violence in our communities.
Oswego County leaders and the New York State Association of Counties were among the driving forces behind recent legislation (A7893-2013, S1686-2013) signed by Governor Cuomo criminalizing the sale and possession of dangerous unregulated synthetic drugs. The Governor signed the bill into law on September 13.

The Oswego County Legislature passed a memorializing resolution urging the US House of Representatives to get back to work and pass a spending bill.
Not for profit community organizations can apply for up to $1,000 for activities for youth during hours when school is not in session. Projects must be completed by the end of 2013 and provide a direct service to children and families in Oswego County.
UPDATE: (Alexandria Bay, NY – October 15, 2013) – Scott Fancher has been located in good health and is back with relatives.
The New York State Police are attempting to locate Scott M. Fancher Jr., 15, from the village of Alexandria Bay, New York. Fancher was last seen October 10.
Construction at Oswego’s first assisted living program residence wrapped up recently and it will soon be welcoming its first residents. St. Francis Commons is located immediately behind Little Lukes Childcare Center and adjacent to Charles E Riley Elementary School. St. Francis Commons Assisted Living Residence in Oswego invites the community to an open house, taking place October 12 and 13 from 1 – 4 p.m. each day.
