Suicide Prevention ‘Stride to Save Lives’ 5K Walk/Run set September 21

Suicide is a national public health crisis. It is the second leading cause of death among 15- to 34-year-olds and the third leading cause of death for 35- to 44-year-olds. A local organization, SAVE – Suicide Awareness Voices of Education – is planing a couple of events in hopes of lowering those statistics and raising awareness. “Stride to Save Lives” will be held at the college on Sept. 21. On Sept. 20, Kevin Hines talk at First United Methodist Church of Fulton. The suicide survivor will also be the keynote speaker for the “Stride to Save Lives” community 5K Run/Walk.

Kites Soar At Fort Ontario

kiteThe skies over historic Fort Ontario were filled with rain – and kites on Saturday. Dozens of people, young and old, braved the elements to take part in the annual kite fest event. Fort Ontario is the only state park that has kite flying in its mission. In other places, park police could show up and they have the discretion to tell people they can’t fly a kite in the park.

Fulton PD Welcomes Two New Officers

At a recent meeting of the Fire and Police Commission, two new police officers were appointed to the Fulton Police Department. The officers, Thomas Yawger and Thomas Pappa, are filling two current vacancies within the police department. The new officers began a week-long orientation with the Fulton Police Department on September 3.

Fundraiser Set Oct. 13 For Retired Fulton Police Officer

Ed Hoffman, a retired Fulton police officer, was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. The aggressive cancer has quickly spread into his liver and lymph nodes. This fundraiser is being held in order to help Ed pay for the expensive chemotherapy treatments and day-to-day expenses while he is out of work.
