Alan Jones was re-sentenced on Wednesday in Oswego County Court. He received the maximum for second-degree manslaughter, 5 to 15 years. He had been serving a 25 years to life sentence.

“Any time you’re messing with this, it’s like playing Russian Roulette In reality, these drugs are poison. It’s about time we start calling them what they are,” a representative from the Upstate New York Poison Center told the crowd Tuesday night.

His administration is committed to creating a budget that will ensure for the safety of the residents but is also fiscally responsible, the mayor said. There’s no reason to close the west side fire station, unless the budget is not being held accountable; the fire department must stay within its budget, he explained.

As of Jan. 1, 2013, the mayor’s proposed spending plan will become the official city budget for the new year. Councilors voted 7-0 Monday night to approve Mayor Tom Gillen’s budget. Some amendments were passed that juggled some funds around, but it is still roughly the same dollar amount as the mayor originally proposed.
