The Credit Accrual and Recovery for Everyone (CARE) program at SUNY Oswego has done more for its high school participants than get their education back on track. Thanks to the new Mentor-Scholar component, young adults such as Oswego City School District student Devin Ball have broken out of their shells and excelled with personal goals.
New York Sea Grant has released a video highlighting the value of king salmon to the Lake Ontario ecosystem and local economies, and how Cornell University researchers and Sea Grant personnel are using pop-off satellite archival tags developed to work in freshwater to collect unprecedented data about salmon movement and behavior. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. A show similar to the Las Vegas “Legends in Concert,” the longest running show since 1983, is now forming in the Greater Syracuse area. “A Time for Legends” is here and seeking area talent and venues. An Oswego and Syracuse venue might be chosen as a monthly dinner and show host, in addition to larger one night shows throughout Upstate NY.
The Emerson J. Middle School students visited the Everson Museum of Art, where they viewed special exhibits, toured the museum’s permanent collection and learned about architecture and ceramics.
Elim Grace Church, 340 W. First St., will host a Christmas concert featuring inspirational hearing-impaired singer and national recording artist Sherry Anne on November 18 at 7 p.m.
Students in Marian Becker’s classroom at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation have utilized kindness rocks to spread the love twofold. Once they found out about the impact of hurricanes in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico, the students wanted to take action.
On December 3 at 2 p.m. come to the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center and learn how to construct a beautiful evergreen wreath to hang outdoors, decorated with delicious edible treats for chickadees and cardinals, woodpeckers, squirrels and other woodland friends as well.
Students at Fourth Street School in Fulton recently learned that by putting themselves in other people’s shoes can lead to lessons of much needed self-love and love toward others. That message was reinforced with “The Show of Love” presentation by Joe Trionfero.
The Blue Team from the Stepping Stones Day Program recently visited the Museum of Science and Technology in Syracuse for a day of exploration that included an exhibit featuring ancient artifacts, called “Paleo, Story of Life,” presented by the International Museum Institute, Inc.
Exploration of the arts at New Haven Elementary has brought added joy to school for several students and staff members. The entire building was treated to a recent performance by DownBeat Percussion, a drumline comprised of young adults from Central New York who share their love of music.
