Mexico High School students and staff members helped raise awareness of, and funds for, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation during a recent Jeans Day. Students and staff members were encouraged to wear blue, a color that symbolized the JDRF awareness efforts.
Coming off a championship season in 2016, the Phoenix Central School District’s marching band had high expectations going into this year, and their final performance at the Carrier Dome did not disappoint. The Firebird contingent, under the direction of Nick Gerling and assistant director Michelle Rudy, cruised to a state title in the Small Schools 2 Class to cap off a stellar fall season.
The annual “blizzard bags” effort, organized by JCB sophomore Caitlin George, packs a day’s worth of meals for Oswego County Opportunities’ Meals on Wheels program recipients to be distributed in case meal delivery is disrupted by inclement weather.
They received recognition during a recent Morning Express program where they were showered with appreciation themselves for being fine examples of showing thanks in their classroom throughout the month of November.
Movie actor, national recording artist and concert performer “Legend” Elvis (Michael Paul Callahan) will make an appearance at 5:10 .p.m for the Port City’s tree lighting ceremony. There will be a full day of activities including a visit from Santa, a children’s parade, multiple stage performances, food vendors, live reindeer, fireworks after the tree is lit and so much more.
The Mexico Academy and Central Schools “Los Inteligentes” chapter of National Honor Society held its 62nd Annual Rite of Induction recently welcoming 20 new members.
Nearly 100 students from Oswego Middle School joined members of the Oswego City Police Department at Lighthouse Lanes recently for an afternoon of bowling and pizza while building trust and finding common ground.
Preparations are under way for the annual Holiday Bazaar at the Bowen’s Corners United Methodist Church to be held Dec. 1 and 2. The event will feature crafts, a bake sale and candy sale, a sale of gently used holiday items, and a luncheon. Bazaar hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
On Saturday, The Oswego Tier II Travel team sponsored by the Oswego Sub Shop lost to League foe New Hartford 1-6. On Sunday morning, the Sub Shop Peewees traveled to Auburn, handing the hosts a 5-4 defeat.
Surrounded in the auditorium by family, friends, teachers and administrators, the inductees were lauded for exemplifying the five characteristics of the NHS: scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and character.
