WSYR Meteorologist Seeks To Inspire Next Generation Of Scientists

Near the end of her presentation to seventh graders at Central Square Middle School on Wednesday, WSYR Meteorologist Kate Thornton was asked by a student about her favorite part of the job. “Honestly, doing events like this,” Thornton said. “Getting out of the studio, being able to talk to kids and hopefully inspire them to pursue a career in STEM (science, math, engineering or technology).”

Advance Care Planning Workshop With St. Luke Palliative Care Team, Dr. Renante Ignacio Scheduled

St. Luke Health Services in Oswego will host a workshop featuring the St. Luke Family of Caring Palliative Care Team, led by Dr. Renante Ignacio, MD., as they discuss advance care planning and advanced directives. The workshop will take place on November 15 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Large Conference Room at St. Luke. The workshop is free of charge and the public is invited to attend.

Candy Donations Lead To Sweet Rewards For Mexico Students

Mexico Elementary School students collected some sweet treats even after Halloween. Several students participated in the library media center’s inaugural Candy Buy Back program where students received one free book for every piece of candy they brought in. For every 25 pieces, they could select a brand new book. Librarian Dianne Barnes said the program was an unexpected success with five copy paper boxes full of 118.8 pounds of candy.

College Credit Opportunities Abound At Mexico High School

Mexico Academy and Central School District students could be nearly halfway to obtaining a bachelor’s degree by the time they graduate if they enroll in an abundance of college offerings at Mexico High School. High School Principal Ryan Lanigan said it is important to plant those foundational seeds as soon as students arrive as freshmen so they and their families can begin to plan ahead for their post-secondary education.
