For years, Palermo Elementary School has welcomed students and families to participate in building their annual Palermo Family Wall of Fame during the school’s open house. A colorful backdrop filled the art room at the school where students and their families posed for a photo opp.
The Executive Committee of the Oswego County Conservative Party met Thursday night (Sept. 28) at its regularly scheduled meeting and the issue of appointing a candidate for the Conservative line for the 25th Legislative district was voted on.
How does crude oil move through the Great Lakes Basin? New York Sea Grant was among the nearly 130 federal, state and provincial governments; industry; NGOs; and academic entities participating in the 2017 Crude Move Symposium addressing the economics, risks, and hazards of crude oil transport through such important waters as the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River system and the Gulf of Mexico.
The Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Drama Club will present “The Little Dog Laughed” on October 27-28 at 7 p.m. Admission at the door is $5 for students and senior citizens, $7 for adults. Children five and under are free.
Palermo Elementary School students are committed to saddle up and read throughout the 2017-18 school year. To begin the initiative, the students were treated to an interactive “Saddle Up and Read” magic show which promoted the benefits of reading and libraries.
Students, staff members and community members are all invited to participate in this joyous display of togetherness, as collection boxes will be placed at each school building. FCSD will coordinate with community partner agencies to maximize its reach.

The Mexico Academy and Central School District had a successful start to the 2017-18 school year, thanks in part to members of its dedicated transportation staff. Palermo Elementary bus drivers and monitors received special recognition recently during the school’s annual bus driver appreciation breakfast.
Bishop’s Commons resident Florence Filby decided it was time to take action after seeing an image on television of a mother wading through knee-deep waters clutching her two small children, after a devastating hurricane flooded her neighborhood. For the 103-year-old Filby, that scene and many others streaming to us from the storm-ravaged areas of the Caribbean, Texas and Florida over the course of the last few weeks made her want to help.
Mexico Academy and Central School District’s bond with former students never breaks. That was proven with the recent visit from former German exchange student Nele Brockmann of Schneverdingen, Germany, who returned to the Mexico community for a visit with her then-host family and now friends: the Hurlbutt family.
