In working through their science curriculum, the fourth graders recently visited Camp Hollis in Oswego Town where they learned about layers of rocks while on the shore of Lake Ontario, nature shapes during a walk through the woods, bird migration though a reader’s theater, layers of pond water and much more.
Charles E. Riley School, Oswego County Health Department, Oswego Fire and Police departments, Oswego County Traffic Safety Board and Tobacco Free CNY in Oswego will join schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day on October 4. Approximately 50 students from Riley will be walking and rolling to school Wednesday along with parents, teachers and community leaders.
The town of Volney is having a contest of how many peanuts in the jar. Simple come to the town hall on County Route 6, Volney Center, to see the display and jar full of peanuts in the shell. Fill out the form with your name, phone number and guess. The closest guess will win the book, “History of Oswego County” 1816 – 2016.
New Haven Elementary welcomed musical theatre performance “Pete the Cat” on September 29, a story of adventure and friendship. Based on the popular books series by Kimberly and James Dean, lead character Pete the Cat gets sent to the Biddle family to learn his manners as a trained house cat.
On October 22 at 2 p.m. Dawn Myers, an Oswego County artist, will teach Introduction to Acrylic Painting as part of the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center’s Nature Inspires series.
For years, Palermo Elementary School has welcomed students and families to participate in building their annual Palermo Family Wall of Fame during the school’s open house. A colorful backdrop filled the art room at the school where students and their families posed for a photo opp.
The Executive Committee of the Oswego County Conservative Party met Thursday night (Sept. 28) at its regularly scheduled meeting and the issue of appointing a candidate for the Conservative line for the 25th Legislative district was voted on.

New York Sea Grant was among the nearly 130 federal, state and provincial governments; industry; NGOs; and academic entities participating in the 2017 Crude Move Symposium addressing the economics, risks, and hazards of crude oil transport through such important waters as the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River system and the Gulf of Mexico.
The Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Drama Club will present “The Little Dog Laughed” on October 27-28 at 7 p.m. Admission at the door is $5 for students and senior citizens, $7 for adults. Children five and under are free.
Palermo Elementary School students are committed to saddle up and read throughout the 2017-18 school year. To begin the initiative, the students were treated to an interactive “Saddle Up and Read” magic show which promoted the benefits of reading and libraries.
