One child form each kindergarten through sixth grade classroom was honored by their teacher for making a difference in their classroom by being shining examples of respectful school citizens throughout the month of September.
The creative spirit of New Haven and Palermo elementary students came alive during a collaborative art project at both schools. In celebration of International Dot Day on Sept. 15, art teacher Megan Christopher read the book “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds to students in grades kindergarten through four.
Fairgrieve Elementary School students who exceeded classroom expectations throughout the month of September were recently honored during a Morning Express program. Principal Jean Sampsell recognized several students as following classroom rules and being safe, responsible and respectful school citizens.
New Haven Elementary students and their families flocked to the school’s annual open house event to share in the excitement with teachers over the start of the 2017-18 school year.
The event was coordinated as a partnership between Riley staff and faculty, the Oswego City School District, the Oswego County Health Department, the Oswego County Traffic Safety Board and Tobacco Free CNY.
The Oswego High School Drama Club has announced the cast and performance dates for its fall play entitled “Knight of Swords,” an original work by Fitzhugh Park Elementary School music teacher Garrett Heater.
“These graduates have shown their perseverance and love of learning through earning their diplomas and we could not be prouder of each of them,” said Superintendent Dr. Dean Goewey. “We wish them the best as they leave our halls fully prepared and life-ready for the great things they’re sure to embark on.”
On Sept. 12, the Mexico High School Girls’ Swimming and Diving team competed against Skaneateles. At the conclusion of the meet, both teams received an MVP honor
Oswego County has the highest rate of childhood obesity in New York State and the adult obesity trends are higher county wide than state wide, according to the county health department. “In Oswego, 33.8 percent of adults are overweight or obese, compared to the New York state average of 24.6 percent,” said Senior Public Health Educator Diane Oldenburg.
Perhaps the most notable improvement at the elementary school is the construction of a student drop-off circle at the north end of the parking lot which allows students to enter the building without having to cross the school bus loop.
