Students in the Oswego City School District are continuing to find success and enhance their educational opportunities with expanded access to advanced courses as a result of a partnership with Cayuga Community College. Nearly 100 students are set to earn a combined 330 credit hours this semester through the Cayuga Advantage Program.
New York Sea Grant, in partnership with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, has announced the New York Great Lakes Ecosystem Education Exchange program, also known as NYGLEEE, for K-12 teachers and environmental educators. This program provides hands-on, experiential learning opportunities focused on Great Lakes Literacy Principles and stewardship at www.nyseagrant.org/educationexchange.
Students, teachers and faculty at the Oswego Middle School donned their best Buc Blue on Friday for a thrilling conclusion to Spirit Week, celebrating and showing their OMS pride for another successful year.
GRB students and their families flocked to the gymnasium where they played carnival games, listened to music, danced and enjoyed a picnic-style dinner with hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, cookies and water.
The Oswego County Falls Prevention Coalition has been instrumental in bringing awareness to local providers about the Timed Up and Go assessment for seniors. Timed Up and Go, or “TUG”, is an assessment that can be completed while a senior is attending a routine office visit with their Primary Care Physician.
Guests enjoyed a picnic-style dinner, served by Principal Jeff Hendrickson and staff members. Music played as attendees visited stations from school and community partners, including a popular face painter who transformed Lanigan student into butterflies, tigers, monsters and other characters.
Oswego City School District is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $2,832,000 five-year ($566,400 annually) Empire State After-School Program grant from the NYS Office of Children and Family Services to provide high quality, free after-school and summer programming to 400 students in grades 3-6.
In working through their science curriculum, the fourth graders recently visited Camp Hollis in Oswego Town where they learned about layers of rocks while on the shore of Lake Ontario, nature shapes during a walk through the woods, bird migration though a reader’s theater, layers of pond water and much more.
Charles E. Riley School, Oswego County Health Department, Oswego Fire and Police departments, Oswego County Traffic Safety Board and Tobacco Free CNY in Oswego will join schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day on October 4. Approximately 50 students from Riley will be walking and rolling to school Wednesday along with parents, teachers and community leaders.
The town of Volney is having a contest of how many peanuts in the jar. Simple come to the town hall on County Route 6, Volney Center, to see the display and jar full of peanuts in the shell. Fill out the form with your name, phone number and guess. The closest guess will win the book, “History of Oswego County” 1816 – 2016.
