T’is the season for Lanigan Elementary School first graders to learn about the history of their community. Accompanied by their teachers and a handful of guests during recent visits to the Pratt House, students received guided tours of the two-story museum.
Principal Todd Terpening presented each recipient with a special award during a school assembly where he commended the students for showing thanks and appreciation to their teachers and for setting great examples for their peers.
Several Fairgrieve Elementary School students were recently named expectation experts by Principal Jean Sampsell. For their efforts, the honorees received a “brag tag” to add to their collection and cheers from their peers, staff members and guests during a Morning Express program.
The event is open to the public and will aim to provide information and gain community feedback, regarding the proposed consolidation of Central Square Intermediate and Millard Hawk Primary School, as well as the boundary changes of Hastings-Mallory Elementary School.

It has been another great year for the Central Square Redhawk Regiment Marching Band. Not only did it earn several trophies, but also gained national recognition for its skill, dedication and creativity.
The Culinary Arts program at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation were recently visited by a professional chef who provided real-life insight into the trade.
The Oswego City Police Department is enforcing a more educational approach to preventing underage drinking and the usage of fake IDs before issuing violations, said Lt. Charles Searor. Searor said that the department will reach out to students in a number of ways through the college and even reaching out to students off-campus. “We used to just do enforcement and not a lot of education and outreach with both students and bars,” Searor said. “We’ve kind of taken a different avenue and tried to educate [and] outreach first.”
