More than $200,000 in scholarships were awarded to this year’s seniors at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District; the students were recognized at their annual Senior Awards Night.
Students of Hastings-Mallory Elementary School learned the importance of protecting the earth’s environment during a presentation by “Dumpster Doug,” a magician and illusionist who advocates for recycling, resource conservation and more.
“This year, Ren Fest 40 will be the biggest and most thrilling season yet,” said Doug Waterbury, owner of Sterling Renaissance Festival. “We’re debuting a brand-new, three-story venue, two new musical acts, and several highly anticipated performing acts.”
Fifth grade A.A. Cole Elementary students launched a weather balloon near space to an altitude of over 50,000 feet, nearly ten miles. The weather was bright and sunny, a perfect day for liftoff.
First grade students at Fairgrieve Elementary School celebrated reading in style with their favorite “best buddy” at the annual Teddy Bear Picnic. The event was a well-deserved reward for their hard work in school this year.
Enjoy an evening of fun-filled, toe-tapping music on June 24 with the Sounds of Brass. This free concert starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Downtown Gazebo along the river on South First Street.
G. Ray Bodley High School seniors Caleb Almeter and David Tallents were recently named the top two students of the Class of 2016. Almeter was named valedictorian after he achieved an overall grade point average (GPA) of 102.3 and Tallents was named salutatorian after he obtained an overall GPA of 100.677.
Academic achievements of G. Ray Bodley High School students were highlighted during the 34th annual academic awards evening. Principal Donna Parkhurst called the event “the highlight of the year” for the freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors who have excelled in their knowledge and who are leaders in the community.
Paul V. Moore High School senior Ryan McCarthy returned to his elementary alma mater, Millard Hawk Primary School, to share with current students how embodying the school’s character education traits can help them succeed.
John C. Birdlebough High School symphonic band and wind ensemble members showcased their musical talents for a packed auditorium during their recent spring concert. Staple high school pieces and challenging arrangements were wonderfully performed by the symphonic band, while wind ensemble members beautifully executed arrangements based on popular movies.
