Volney Elementary School students presented 29 local veterans with recognition certificates during the school’s annual Veterans’ Appreciation Day assembly on Tuesday (November 10).

Lanigan Elementary School fifth grade teacher Aaron Koproski encouraged all students during a recent Veterans’ Day assembly to say at least two words to people who have served in the Armed Forces: thank you.

Lanigan Elementary teachers recently received the designation of Teachers of the Year by the Wal-Mart in Granby. Wal-Mart employees Angela Blanchard and Samantha McLoughlin presented a sheet cake to the school’s 43 teachers.

Phoenix Central School District students Chloe Calkin, Hailey Goudy and Marcus Berube were selected to participate in the New York State School Music Association Junior High Area All State Music Festival, held November 6 and 7 in Cortland.

The village of Hannibal is holding its 12th annual Country Christmas on Nov. 21 and 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Local businesses hold their annual open houses including vendors, food and wine tastings, craft shows, and more. Live music, carolers, and other activities will take over the village.

The Guidance Department of G. Ray Bodley High School in the Fulton City School District will again host its annual “Financial Aid Night” for students and their parents or guardians on December 8 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

The Friends of Oswego County Hospice will host its fifth annual “Lights of Remembrance” memorial tree lighting on Dec. 3 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Eis House on Academy Street in Mexico.

The 5K professionally timed Family Run/Walk is less than a week away. The event will be held November 15 at 12:30 p.m. at 22 Munn St., The Ancient Order of Hibernians.

Family literacy activities were plentiful during the Literacy Coalition of Oswego County’s fifth annual READ Event, held November 7 at Hannibal Central School District’s Dennis M. Kenney Middle School.
