“We are here to honor excellence,” began Pulaski Middle School Principal Michael Bateson. “Leadership, good character, strong academics, perseverance, effort, and excellence.” The annual awards ceremony was held to honor students in grades 6-8 for their exemplary academics, character, and leadership qualities.

First grade students at Fairley Elementary recently captivated an audience full of family members and friends by showcasing the knowledge they’ve accumulated throughout the past school year.

An audition is scheduled for June 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the New Haven Congregational Church, on Route 104 east between Oswego and Mexico. All will receive a role. No one is turned away.

The piano students of Marcia Pavel Sideris will present their annual piano recital on June 14 at The Church of the Resurrection, 120 W. Fifth St. The program will begin at 3 p.m. and will feature all ages and ability levels performing a standard piano repertoire and classical compositions from memory.

Students enrolled in the Heavy Equipment Repair and Operation (HERO) course through the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation had the opportunity to put their newly-learned skills to use in assisting the Mexico Academy and Central School District to tear down its previous district office.

Sandy Creek Elementary School students tested their knowledge and practiced their skills during a recent contest that challenged students in every class to complete the most problems. As part of a pizza party contest, each class tried to complete the most problems in their grade level on IXL, which is an innovative tool that promotes learning through the use of technology.

In two separate performances featuring hundreds of teachers, parents, community members and fellow peers, the fifth/sixth grade orchestra and chorus each performed several songs that pleased the proud audience.

In the final track meet of the season, Danny Hefti broke the school record in the 1500 with a time of 4:41. He fell just short of also setting a new school record in the 800.

Each student that was presented with a Student of the Month award was called down to the school’s gym to participate in the celebration, which included assorted games and snacks. During the celebration, one boy and one girl from each grade level was also selected as the EJD PE Student of the Year.
