Fairgrieve Elementary School students put their storytelling skills to the test in front of a panel of judges during a recent event. Divided into two groups based on grade level, students recited fables and folktales in the hopes of advancing to the school-wide competition.
The Phoenix Central School District and the surrounding community are gearing up to host the first-ever Oswego County Olympiad Invitational on May 14. Similar to the Special Olympics held each year in Cicero, the event will feature games, snacks, and competition among students with disabilities.
In an effort to educate students about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol, the Hannibal Central School District will team with local agencies to stage a mock DWI scene on May 15.
The concert was well attended by family members and friends, who offered cheered on the students as they performed classic songs, such as “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” and “Rockin’ Robin.”
Fulton’s own Josh Batstone, accompanied by Billy Harrison on guitar gave an afternoon performance at St. Luke Health Services for residents that could only be described as, “WOW!” Batstone, who competed earlier this year on the hit NBC television show ‘The Voice,’ performed original songs and even tried out a new tune for an appreciative audience.
Lanigan Elementary School recently showcased its love for the environment, as more than 60 students participated in the 2015 New York State Senator’s Earth Day Poster Contest. Lanigan kindergartener Addison Barrick was crowned the winner of the contest, and was recently honored during a school assembly.
Robyn Yorker’s Stepping Stones Day Program class at the Center for Instruction Technology and Innovation is involved in a project-based learning unit using recycled milk cartons to create a garden. As part of the project, the students were tasked to vote on what plants they were interested in growing in their class garden.
The Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center will present a public program on June 7 at 2 p.m. The spring skies and water echo with noise and activity as ducks, geese, herons and other birds return to their natal ponds to court and raise their young.
Mike Thaler, the author of the popular “Teacher from the Black Lagoon” series, visited Fairgrieve Elementary recently. Thaler read stories like “A Hippopotamus Ate the Teacher” and “Never Mail an Elephant” to individual classes, asking questions that stretched their imaginations along the way.
Fairgrieve Elementary students worked on practicing the character trait of self-control for the month of April.
