St. Luke Staff Event Lends Support To Oswego Animal Shelter

Once a week, St. Luke Health Services director of nursing Theresa Makin RN, who is also a volunteer at the shelter, stops in to pick up a fury friend and brings it along to St. Luke where they spend the day visiting residents. It’s special because for Elvis and others like him, there is no shortage of attention and affection as they make their “rounds” throughout the skilled nursing residence.

Trinity Catholic students Kaeden Livesey and Azalia Avery recently participated in an activity facilitated by Bricks 4 Kidz. Students used basic STEM principles and worked together to build interactive LEGO models.

Trinity Catholic School To Host Prospective Student Open House

Trinity Catholic School will hold an open house from 6:30 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 11), at 115 E. Fifth St., in Oswego. The open house welcomes parents in the community who are interested in enrolling their children for the 2015-2016 school year. This includes current and new Pre-K families who are planning for next year and new families of students in kindergarten through 6th grade.

The Oswego High School Varsity Winter Guard participated in the Winter Guard International Regional Competition on Saturday (February 7) at Corning-Painted Post High School in Corning. For the second year in a row the guard scored well enough in the preliminary round to advance to the finals competition held Saturday night.

Fairgrieve Students Celebrate Dental Health Month

There were plenty of reasons to smile at Fairgrieve Elementary School on Friday, as local dentist Frank Fruce helped students “brush up” on healthy oral hygiene habits. During two separate presentations, and in conjunction with National Children’s Dental Health Month, Dr. Fruce talked to students about maintaining clean teeth and gums and the importance of flossing.

Hannibal Benefiting From Data-Driven Instruction

At the start of the 2014-2015 school year, the Hannibal Central School District began to incorporate a research-based approach to planning instruction to increase student achievement, and positive results are already beginning to show. The district is incorporating data-driven instruction into classrooms, a concept that asks teachers to use results from assessments to drive instructional decision-making.
