The Student Leadership group at John C. Birdlebough High School in the Phoenix Central School District recently hosted a luncheon for Senator Patty Ritchie as a way to honor the senator for her exemplary leadership qualities. Upon her arrival at the school, Ritchie was greeted by Superintendent Judy Belfield, Assistant Principal Patrick Fitch and several students within the Student Leadership group.
With the holiday season in full swing, the Hannibal Central School District is doing its part to ensure students have food to eat and gifts under the tree on December 25. In collaboration with local businesses, organizations and community members, the school district recently hosted its sixth annual Christmas Bureau Carnival at Dennis M. Kenney Middle School.
As Hannibal High School teacher Arlene Laut gears up for retirement at the end of the school year, a classroom project she spearheaded a decade ago is also drawing to an end. A massive penny collection effort, which was launched in an elective class Laut taught several years back, aimed to teach students the human cost of the Holocaust by having each penny represent a life.
Although Halloween is just a distant memory, that didn’t stop a group of zombies from invading Hannibal High School recently for the annual senior play. “Attack of the Zombies” kept audience members entertained and on the edge of their seats during the two-night run. Playing on the zombie theme made popular through network television hits such as “The Walking Dead,” nearly 30 senior classmen took the stage for the performances.
The Exceptional Education program at CiTi teamed up with Oswego County Opportunities to bring the gift of warmth to nearly a dozen youth in need throughout the area. Students in grades seven through 12 worked alongside their teachers as they followed directions and learned about generosity to create and donate 10 blankets to OCO programs that aid homeless youth.
In the Sandy Creek Central School District, elementary school children recently learned lessons about generosity and giving to others as they perused the Santa Shop. The shop had plenty of gifts for the children to buy for their parents, siblings and other family members.
A donation from a local business owner helped bring extra holiday cheer into the art room at Sandy Creek Elementary School recently, as students were able to create ornaments. The ornaments were donated by Don Allen, owner of Stone Cold Creations and given to pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students in art class.
Hannibal High School and Kenney Middle School concerts provided an enjoyable taste of the holiday season when they performed in separate concerts at the school in early December.
Five students from the Public Safety and Justice Program at the Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation took the plunge, the Polar Plunge that is, raising money and awareness for the Special Olympics.
Sandy Creek Elementary will be conducting registration for the Pre-K and Kindergarten classes of 2014-2015 on February 3, 4 and 5 from 1 – 6 p.m. on each of these days in the elementary office area.
