Dillon Welcomes New Fifth Graders with Hot Dog Roast

Incoming fifth graders were greeted with a trail of colorful balloons that lead to the cafeteria for a short presentation given by teachers and staff to assist with the transition to middle school. Teachers kept a positive and encouraging tone as they spoke about lockers, block scheduling, lunches, homework and more.

Behemoth Fish, Longer In-Water ROV Demonstration Hours for 8/27 at State Fair Shipwrecks Exhibit

The Great Shipwrecks of NY’s ‘Great’ Lakes Signature Exhibit presented by New York Sea Grant and The Great New York State Fair is adding new displays and expanding its in-water demonstrations. The exhibit is located in and along the reflecting pool at the mini-NY State Park at the Fairgrounds.

For Sustainable Energy Incentives Info: Visit New York Biomass Energy Alliance at Great New York State Fair

The New York Biomass Energy Alliance/NYBEA has begun expanding its outreach and education program through the recent award of $250,000 in U.S. Forest Service State Wood Energy Team funding. NYBEA is at the 2014 Great New York State Fair in the Center of Progress Building with information on practical incentives available to convert residences and businesses to local, sustainable bioenergy.

Bev Wilcox Remembered

Bev Wilcox, a friend of ours and certainly a friend to many others, recently passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Bev worked as a greeter at the Granby Wal-Mart so it seems fitting that as people walked through the front door, they observed a small table upon which a vase with flowers and her name tag ~ BEV ~ was placed at the spot where she would have stood.

Teens from Mount Pleasant Church help less fortunate

For several years the Youth Group at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church has attended Reach Work Camp during the summer. Reach, a nationwide youth mission, is now in its 22nd year and is designed to provide teens with an opportunity to help the elderly, handicapped and needy families who need repairs done on their homes.

Great Lakes Research ROV, 24/7 Weather Buoy in State Park Pond at State Fair

The Great Shipwrecks of NY’s ‘Great’ Lakes Signature Exhibit at the 2014 Great New York State Fair will have components in the permanent reflecting pool at the 375-acre Syracuse fairgrounds. The ‘cement pond’ is part of the State Park, operated by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation at the Fair.
