Lanigan virtue of the month awards for December

Volunteers from the Sandy Creek National Honor Society spent several hours ensuring that hundreds of less fortunate children in the Sandy Creek area had a happy Christmas morning and their families had a wonderful holiday meal this year. The students, along with their advisor, Casey Vallance, volunteered their time and energy to help local community groups wrap and box the holiday goodwill.

The Fulton Junior High School (FJHS) Friends of Rachel (FOR) Club as a group decided to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central New York by participating in a Santa letter charitable fundraiser through Macy’s Department Stores.
Empathy is the ability to recognize and share someone else’s feelings and emotions and being sensitive to them. The students were honored during a recent Morning Express program at the school.
Students at Fairgrieve Elementary School wrote letters to Santa which will be delivered to the North Pole, via the local Macy’s Department stores, all to benefit the Make-A-Wish (MAW) Foundation of Central New York.
Students at Granby Elementary School wrote letters to Santa that will also benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central New York through the Macy’s Believe Campaign. Macy’s Department Stores will donate $1 to MAW for every letter to Santa they receive in their special “Believe” mailboxes, up to $1 million nationwide.
The students held a Spell-a-thon where they used pledge sheets to raise money for every correctly spelled word from a list of 100 words. Through the generosity of family and friends, each third grade student was given $15 to spend on a child they were shopping for.
The Fairley Elementary School cafeteria was buzzing with excitement on Dec. 12 as 120 students helped make holiday cookie cutouts. All five of the district’s second-grade classes took part in the annual cookie-making event, as they followed a recipe to make dough and then made hundreds of cutouts ranging from stars to gingerbread men to Christmas trees.
The Oswego Lady Buc varsity and jayvee teams were tough on the court on Wednesday while the boys’ hockey team was edged and modified volleyball was victorious over a previously unbeaten foe
