Members of the Oswego Players, a local theatrical group which is celebrating its 75th anniversary, have donated proceeds from their recent performances of Death in the OR to a fund that honors an exceptional Oswego Hospital nurse each year.
The Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center in Oswego provided an elegant backdrop on Saturday night as a large crowd gathered to honor some of the top 2013 Oswego Speedway achievers from the Novelis Supermodified and PathFinder Bank race divisions. A group of six worthy inductees also entered the Oswego Speedway Mitchell’s Speedway Press Hall of Fame.
Braving the cold and windy conditions recently, more than 50 people came to Great Bear Springs for a tree pruning presentation. With the orchard trees having been unattended for over 30 years, they were ideal for demonstrating. Fernando Araya a local arborist was the presenter and instructor.
The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team won a thriller 3-2 over Castleton State College in overtime as Megan Hagg scored the game-winner 2:31 into the extra period. Lizzy Marks assisted on the deciding goal, helping the Lakers to a 2-0 mark on the season with two wins in the Oswego State Classic.
SUNY Oswego and Menorah Park will co-host “Aging in Focus — a Geriatric Mental Health Forum” from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 12, at the Crowne Plaza in Syracuse, focusing on the roles mental health and mental illness play in the lives of the elderly.
Three Oswego High School students were accepted into Junior High Area All State Orchestra and Band. Connor Sheene, Jeremy Braiman and Mike Allen will perform at Cortland Junior/Senior High School this weekend.
Looking to duplicate the success of last year’s Monster Match initiative, Fairley Elementary School teacher Barb Mosny hopped on board again this year with new students and equally positive results. The program, a collaboration with Oswego County BOCES’ Distance Learning Network, pairs local classes with one outside of the county, and each class creates a monster using materials from a list provided.
The first meeting of the month, which begins at 5 p.m., involves committee meetings as the curriculum, finance and personnel agendas will be prepared for the November 19 meeting.
The CCLS seeks to establish a set of academic standards that are consistent from school to school, district to district and state to state. The Pulaski Academy and Central School District is “adopting and adjusting” the NYS modules and domains at the elementary level and “adapting” them to the curriculum at the middle and high school levels.
Halloween music rang throughout the Kenney Middle School cafetorium on Wednesday night as ghosts, goblins, superheroes, animals and creatures of the night delivered a ‘spooktacular’ performance.
