Granby Elementary School sixth-graders received an early dose of lake-effect snowfall Monday as meteorologist Jim Teske offered his expertise on the subject. Teske, a meteorologist with News Channel 9, discussed the forces responsible for generating lake-effect snow and the difficulties in forecasting snowfall totals because there are so many factors that come into play.
The Oswego County Health Department reported Monday that a senior resident in the county is recovering from West Nile virus. It is estimated that the patient was infected with the virus in middle to late September. The virus is carried by mosquitoes and was found in mosquitoes collected in Central Square, West Monroe and in Onondaga County several times over the summer.
Oswego Girl Scouts were well represented recently at the second Camp Hollis Family Harvest Day. They sponsored a cabin and decorated it for Halloween. The girls had fun handing out candy along with Girl Scout stickers and bookmarks to all the trick-or-treaters.
The members of the Fulton First United Methodist Church Men’s Club are looking for crafters for their fourth annual craft show, luncheon, and BBQ on November 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It is more than just a “tribute” to Lynyrd Skynyrd, it’s a tribute to the man that defined it. Artimus Pyle has said “If it wasn’t for Ronnie, no one would know my name.”
Jimmie James BBQ will hold its grand opening celebration on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., announced owners Jim and Robin Guyle. The celebration will include a car show, prize drawings, free giveaways and free samples. Jimmie James BBQ is a family-run restaurant that provides friendly service and good food.
An eco-friendly initiative that recycles used markers to make fuel is gaining local support as the Blue Team at the Stepping Stones Day Program recently hopped on board for the cause. Students in the program, which is collaboration between Oswego County BOCES and Hillside Children’s Center, teamed with Crayola and other schools across North America to participate in the green initiative.
Hundreds of people visited St. Francis Commons Assisted Living Residence during an Open House this past weekend. Those attending toured the new residence and learned about the unique services and amenities to be offered to the community.
