NY Legion Leaders See JROTC Drill, History in Oswego County Visit

When New York’s American Legion leaders visited Oswego County Oct. 5, they were treated to some Marine Junior ROTC drilling at Mexico Academy and Central School, a glimpse of the War of Independence in a scenic mural, and a reminder to “Support Our Troops” during lunch at Horning-Fournier American Legion Post 418 in Phoenix.

BOCES open house showcases student work, class offerings

Projects ranging from auto detailing to paraffin wax demonstrations were in focus Thursday during an Oswego County BOCES open house event on the Mexico campus. Teachers highlighted their class offerings and students showcased their work during the two-hour event, which gave visitors some insight into the programs and services that BOCES provides.

APW ‘Story Time with Teachers’ Returns for the Second Year

The APW Faculty Association is joining with the APW Parent-Teacher-Student Association and the Williamstown and Parish public libraries to host ‘Story Time with Teachers.’ The 2013-14 school year marks the second year of the educational outreach program where teachers from the school district host a monthly story, craft, and snack hour at the public library in the Parish and the Williamstown communities.

Halloween Tales Return To Red Creek

On Oct 26 at 2 p.m. Wager’s Country-Apple will host the second annual fall story telling fest. Haunted barns, spooky beaches, ghost ships and true Halloween tragedies will be among the tales told and stories shared. Author Susan Peterson Gateley will kick off this year’s session with two true Halloween storm stories from Lake Ontario.

Proceeds of local author’s first book donated to PAOC for animal rescue efforts

New author Connie Evans has joined with Tails and Tales to publish Charlotte’s Big Dream, the true story of her rescue dog. Connie teamed up with local illustrator Jim Arnold to portray Charlotte’s story from the time she was outdoors, homeless, cold and hungry searching for her new family to her adoption by a new mom.

Coville encourages Phoenix students to dream big

Distinguished children’s book author Bruce Coville roamed his old stomping grounds today (Oct. 10), sharing his passion for writing with students in the Phoenix Central School District. Coville, an author of more than 100 books geared toward children and young adults, grew up and attended school in Phoenix. He said his passion for writing was ignited during a class assignment when he was in sixth grade.
