For veterans who live hours away from a Veterans Hospital, accessing healthcare used to mean a day-long trip. For veterans of the Oswego VA Clinic, new technology makes it easier to meet healthcare specialists in the Syracuse Veterans Hospital face-to-face through “Telehealth” technology.
The U.S. Naval Sea Cadets Truxtun DDG-103 Division will hold a chicken BBQ on July 20. All proceeds will help the Truxtun DDG-103 Division to go to Norfolk Naval Base to visit and get hands-on training through the naval base. The BBQ starts at 11 a.m. and will last until gone
During its monthly meeting tonight (July 17), the Cayuga Community College Board of Trustees passed a resolution in an 8 to 1 vote declaring financial exigency. The declaration follows the board’s approval of a conservative budget of $30.32 million last month. That budget goes before Cayuga County Legislature for approval on July 23.
UPDATE: An arrest has been made as a result of the investigation into a possible methamphetamine lab at 11 Gregory St. Oswego. Brenda L. Howard, 41, of 11 Gregory St., Oswego, was arrested and charged with the following: Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine in the 3rd Degree – Class D Felony. Police responded to the location in regard to an unrelated complaint. Upon investigation, officers developed information and later made observations, that would indicate that the location had been used for the illegal manufacture of methamphetamine.
Former Fulton resident, Mildred Bullard, now a resident of Homosassa, Florida, was surprised on her 90th birthday with a party by her children and their spouses. Family members from Florida were joined by those who traveled from New Jersey, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, New York, Maryland, and California.
This year’s Children’s Parade is sure to create a positive and exciting environment full of community support.
The parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Breitbeck Park, a change from years past, but will be preceded by a variety of fun and family-friendly pre-parade activities. Starting at 10 a.m., Breitbeck will host the Entergy Nuclear Activity Tent, where children can enjoy free face painting, temporary tattoos, crafts and fun hands-on activities.
The city has entered into a construction contract with Joseph J. Lane Construction Inc., Syracuse, for installation of new stormwater sewers in all of the streets outlined within the accompanying map. The $4,824,888 project cost is financed with the assistance of the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation.
Oswego residents in need of a smoke detector need to look no further! With the help of Eagle Beverage and Raby’s Ace Home Center, the fire department is offering free smoke detectors to owner occupied residences in need. “This program is an outstanding example of people helping people,” said Jeff McCrobie, Oswego City Fire Chief.
Maddison Olivia Bartlett was born on May 15, 2012, along with her twin brother, Adam. While Adam was happy and healthy, Maddi spent the next three months in the hospital. With her medical conditions, Maddi needs several medications, therapy and treatments daily that are very expensive.
Each year more people in the United States die from extreme heat exposure than from hurricanes, lightening, tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes combined. On average, about 300 people die each year from exposure to heat. The Oswego County Health Department recommends that everyone understand the warning signs of heat-related illness and take special care of those at risk.
