After providing care to the community for more than 52 years, Joseph Edmund Mather, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. obstetrician/gynecologist of Oswego County OB-GYN, P.C., has announced he will retire at the end of June. Dr. Mather Sr. has been providing women’s health care in Oswego since 1961 while maintaining privileges at Oswego Hospital until his retirement.
The Oswego “Rock the Locks” Paddlefest Committee decided Friday, June 28, to move the paddling event to the Oswego Harbor for the safety of the paddlers. “Due to flood warnings, debris in the river and strong currents from recent storms, we decided to move the event to the Oswego Harbor,” said Jackie Sheffield, associate director of the Oswego YMCA. “We are asking paddlers to meet at Wright’s Landing in Oswego instead of paddling through the locks.”
In September of 2006 Granby Elementary School welcomed a new class of kindergarten students. Now, seven years later, the school is saying good-bye and good luck to those same students as they end their final year in the elementary school as sixth grade students and begin a new chapter in the fall as seventh grade students at the Fulton Junior High School.
Rep. Dan Maffei introduced The Incentivize Growth Now In Tomorrow’s Entrepreneurs (IGNITE) Act today, a bill to help Central New York small business owners grow and create new jobs. Maffei’s proposed legislation will enable individuals to create tax-free savings accounts to start a small business.
The second concert in the Oswego Summer Sunset Concert Series will be held July 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Breitbeck Park in Oswego. These concerts are provided free to the public by the city of Oswego and The Musicians Union of Oswego County. The Concert Band, under the direction of Kevin Upcraft, will be performing this week.
