Residents of the villages of Sandy Creek and Lacona are being advised by the Oswego County Health Department to boil all water used for drinking and cooking due to a water main break in the municipal water system. This order will be in effect until at least Tuesday, June 11.
On behalf of the Fulton Public Library, Betty Maute recently applied for, and received a New York State grant for the training of poets and writers. The participants will be trained by attending a series of classes, to be held at the library and taught by Jim and others skilled in writing prose and poetry.

Marion Blumenthal Lazan, a Holocaust survivor and author of the book “Four Perfect Pebbles,” was a recent visitor in the Fulton City School District where she shared her personal story of hope, courage and compassion with sixth grade students in the district. “By listening,” she said, “I hope you prevent our past from becoming your future.”
The grant will support ORA’s community development initiatives, beginning with the engagement of neighborhood planning firm, CZB (www.czb.org). ORA will work with CZB over the next nine months to collect data and engage the community in a thorough examination of Oswego’s strengths and opportunities.
More than half a million dollars in scholarships, grants, endowments and awards were handed out to graduating seniors from Altmar-Parish-Williamstown High School at their annual Senior Awards banquet on June 4.
The following Volney Elementary School students were presented with a Principal’s Award for demonstrating effort, the May character virtue of the month.
The Oswego High School Top 100 students were recognized for the twenty-fourth consecutive year. Several hundred people packed the Oswego High School Dining Hall for the annual “Top 100” dinner. This year, Oswego Rotary, PathFinder Bank, NBT Bank, and the Oswego City School District hosted the event with the Oswego City School District Food Service Department supplying a buffet extravaganza.
One recent classroom experience was a visit by an occupational therapist that was coordinated by the program’s instructor to coincide with the students’ reading of Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper, a novel about a young girl that does not allow Cerebral Palsy to define her.
The City of Oswego and The Musicians Union of Oswego County are pleased to announce the schedule of free concerts for 2013. The 2013 Summer Sunset Concert Series, an Oswego tradition since 1935, marks the 78th year of this community program. All concerts are scheduled for Wednesday evenings in Breitbeck Park.
