SUNY Oswego Students to Exhibit ‘Exhilarating’ Ceramics

Jeremy Blackburn, a SUNY Oswego graduate student in art education, prepares a work for submission to a ceramics exhibition called "It's Not What You Think!" that will take place Dec. 9 through Jan. 28 at Oswego State Downtown, corner of West First and Bridge streets. Blackburn is one of 13 students of Roxanne Jackson, assistant professor of art, whose works will be on display.Roxanne Jackson, assistant professor of art, said the display will feature the “exhilarating and cutting edge” artwork of 13 of her intermediate and and advanced student ceramists.

Oswego Health Staff Share Information on Healthy Habits at Leighton Elementary

Oswego Health staff members shared important information on healthy habits with the students and parents of Leighton Elementary School in Oswego during the recent two-day parent teacher conference event. 	Pictured from left are Nola Gardner, RN, a certified diabetes educator from Oswego Health; Physical Education Teacher Teddy Beers; Student Mylee Favata and her sister, Jaelyn Favata. In the photo, Gardner uses models that demonstrate the difference between muscle and fat. Oswego Health also provided educational materials that the students and parents could take home. Oswego Health staff members shared important information on healthy habits with the students and parents of Leighton Elementary School in Oswego during the recent two-day parent teacher conference event.

Oswego Lakettes Meet Olympic Gold Medalists

On Saturday, November 19, 2011 two members of the Oswego Lakettes Synchronized Swim team, Calinda Ceterski and Caitlyn McAfee, participated in the 2011 East Zone Silver Clinic with other swimmers from around the North East. Teaching the clinic were  Becky Dyroen Lancer and Nathalie Bartleson two of the 1996 Gold Medalists in the Team Event for Synchronized swimming in Atlanta. Pictured left to right holding the 1996 gold medals: Calinda Ceterski, Becky Dyroen Lancer, Nathalie Bartleson, and Caitlyn McAfee. Legislature Commends Mexico Marine Corps Jr. ROTC

The Oswego County Legislature recognized Mexico High School’s Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps and Drill Team (MCJROTC) during its November meeting. The team marched to historic success in April 2011 when they ranked 5th Best Drill Team during a national competition in Florida. The 30-member team won five overall meet titles and 44 trophies in 2011. They include 29 first-place, 9 second-place and 6 third-place honors, making it the most successful drill team in the history of the program. These accomplishments affirm the team’s mastery of drill and ceremonies and attest to the dedication, discipline and passion of its members as well as its leadership, families and community. The Mexico High School’s MCJROTC program was established in 1996 to instill in students the value of citizenship, service to country, personal responsibility and sense of accomplishment. At hand to receive the commendation were from left: Marine Corps Lt. Col. John Freda (ret.), program leader of the Mexico ROTC unit; Cadet Captain James Harrington, deputy commander of the Mexico ROTC unit; Cadet Major Jessica Locci, commander of the Mexico ROTC unit; Oswego County Legislature Chairman Barry D. Leemann, District 4, Marine Corps veteran; and Legislature Minority Leader Michael K. Kunzwiler, District 18, Marine Corps veteran.The team marched to historic success in April 2011 when they ranked 5th Best Drill Team during a national competition in Florida.
