We have been watching the news reports about Hurricane Harvey with both sad and happy hearts. Sad because, well obviously, this is a huge disaster for all of Southeast Texas and beyond and it is hard to even imagine the suffering and misery. But also with happy hearts because it is at least clear that emergency response finally includes pets as a matter of course. Almost every newscast includes photos of at least one pet, sometimes many, being rescued along with its people.
Photographers and outdoor lovers can have their photos featured in the 2018-2019 Oswego County Visitor Guide, scheduled for publication in January. The Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning is sponsoring a photo contest for the guide, which will be distributed at trade and travel shows, travel information centers, festivals, events, and businesses over the next two years.
The Oswego County Legislature recognized July 26 as Americans with Disabilities Awareness Day to help promote education about available services, resources and advocacy for county residents.
What can we say about Lucas? He’s a cat, a kitten really at about 5 months, happy go lucky, playful, a bit of a climber. He loves cuddling with people and playing with the other cats and kittens in the kitten room. He is not at all phased by dogs. Isn’t he a handsome dude, too?
The Oswego County Health Department will hold its next rabies clinic Sept. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Palermo Town Highway Garage, 1572 County Route 45. The last rabies clinic of 2017 will be Nov. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the County Highway Garage, 31 Schaad Drive, Scriba.

The village of Pulaski returned to first place in Oswego County’s best-tasting drinking water contest after two years. Oswego County Legislator Shawn Doyle, District 3, accepted the award on behalf of the village during the annual August legislature meeting at the Barclay Courthouse in Pulaski. The award was presented by Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang and the Oswego County Legislature’s Health Committee.
