Make-A-Wish Central New York prepares for 2017 Sugarman Law Firm Wish Ball

Make-A-Wish CNY is gearing up for its annual Sugarman Law Firm Wish Ball, a gala event to support wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions. This year’s masquerade-themed ball will take place Sept. 16, from 5:30 to 11 p.m. at The Oncenter. The evening features a cocktail hour, sit-down dinner, and a program celebrating wishes. Other highlights include a wine pull, silent auction, high-end basket raffle, and entertainment provided by the “Jess Novak Band.”

The Veterans Book Project and a visit by coordinating artist Monica Haller -- shown here installing the project at a campus gallery -- is among the programs supported by a recent SUNY Explorations in Diversity and Academic Excellence Grant to SUNY Oswego for the "Many Voices, One Oswego" initiative. The Veterans Book Project, which will exhibit in Tyler Art Gallery this fall, offers a library of 50 books, each authored by a person with first-hand experience of war, while inviting others to share their own stories.

Grant To Help Arts Explore Differences In ‘Many Voices, One Oswego’

A SUNY grant will support a wide range of campus programs in its “Many Voices: One Oswego: Diversity and Inclusion Through the Arts” series, including the stories of veterans, the black experience in America and the tales of current international students. The arts represent an avenue to better begin conversations and explore topics of diversity and inclusion through storytelling, said Julie Pretzat, dean of the School of Communication, Media and the Arts and the project organizer.
