Oswego County Health Department Offers Help For Mothers

As Oswego County continues to focus on providing a healthy environment for its citizens, the health community celebrates the success of the “Smoke Free for My Baby and Me” program. The initiative was developed by a diligent network of community partners. It is aimed at helping pregnant women successfully quit smoking through clinic-based best practices, peer support, monitoring, and incentives such as free diapers.

Last week we answered a question about coyotes and then this week we received an email from a kind-hearted man who had rescued a wounded cedar wax wing and wondered whether the Oswego County Humane Society could take it in. That got us thinking about wild animals in general. OCHS is not licensed as a wildlife rehabilitation agency to take in wildlife, but we do care about them and we know many of you do as well.

Fossil-Hunting SUNY Oswego Students Flourish In New Mexico Dig

Thanks to a National Geographic Society Committee for Research and Exploration grant, three SUNY Oswego undergraduates spent three weeks at Ghost Ranch, New Mexico, this summer unearthing such fossils as the tiny jaws of ancient animals — and the fossilized bones of a rare dinosaur — as they tried on paleontology careers.
