On Armed Forces Day, May 21, the annual “Kites Over Fort Ontario” event will return to the scenic and windswept grounds of the fort. Kite experts from the United States and Canada, including members of New York Kite Enthusiasts, and noted Kite Historian Thom Shanken, will assist kite fliers of all ages and skill levels.
Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Junior-Senior High School students recently listened to a message of hope and empathy as they heard the story of Holocaust survivor Marion Blumenthal Lazan. Born in Hitler-ruled Germany, Lazan spent some of her precious youth years in concentration camps with the fear of being sent away for extermination.
The 31st annual Spring Fun(d) Day will be held June 3 and 4 at Cleveland United Methodist Church, 73 Bridge St., Cleveland (north shore of Oneida Lake).
Come enjoy an evening concert of bird songs, with a walk co-led by Faith Baker of the Onondaga Audubon Society and naturalist Pat Carney at the Amboy 4-H Environmental Educational Center on June 2 at 7 p.m. (rain date – June 3). Observe and listen to nature’s feathered friends who are courting, nesting, and defending territory.
This is to benefit the “Blessings in a Backpack” program at the Mexico School District.
Oswego Health will hold its yearly Fulton multi-blood analysis event from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. June 4 at the G. Ray Bodley High School on Gillard Drive. Appointments can be made beginning May 16 by calling 341-0094, lines will be open 24-hours a day.
The Oswego County Health Department will hold its next rabies clinic June 1, at the West Monroe Town highway Garage, 46 County Route 11, West Monroe. “The rabies virus continues to be active across Oswego County. We’ve already had three animals test positive for rabies this year, in the towns of Albion, Minetto and Scriba,” said Jiancheng Huang, Oswego County Public Health Director.
The annual Fulton City School District Art Show will have an opening reception featuring student artwork from all Fulton city schools on Friday, May 20, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 167 S. Fourth St.
Last week, you talked about the dangers of cocoa bark mulch. But, what about other garden products? I am an avid gardener, but also a pet lover and I worry all the time that the “stuff” I use in my garden, even though I try to use mostly organic products and controls, might harm them. But they are always outside with me and roaming around and investigating every new smell and I just worry.
