Oswego County Legislature Chairman Kevin Gardner (District 13, town of New Haven and a portion of the town of Scriba) presented his state of the county address to the full Legislature during its March meeting.

More than 50 budding scientists in kindergarten through fourth grades participated in the after-school event. Projects highlighted a broad range of topics, from astronomy to biology, and students were on hand to answer questions about their research.

The A-Team from Sandy Creek along with their alliance, Freezing Code from Oswego, finished in first place at the Northern New York VEX Skyrise State Robotics Championship, advancing them to the 2016 VEX Worlds on April 20-23, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Fifty-seven students in grades three and four at Michael A. Maroun Elementary School participated in the schoolwide Battle of the Books event, held March 14 in the intermediate cafeteria.

During the third annual Healthy Family Night at Fairley Elementary School on March 14, physical education teacher Lynn Halliwell helped unveil a new hooping exercise for students in kindergarten through fourth grade.

Building upon nearly 15 years of administrative experience in the Phoenix Central School District, longtime administrator and former Central Square teacher Christopher Byrne has been named the district’s next superintendent. In a unanimous vote March 14, the PCSD Board of Education approved Byrne as the successor to Judy Belfield, who will retire in June.

Executive Director of Oswego County Opportunities Diane Cooper-Currier announced that NRG Oswego Harbor Power, has signed on as a “Building Dreams” sponsor with a $2,000 donation to one of OCO’s major fundraising events, the ‘Fifty & Fabulous!’ Bowl-A-Fun.

Production Agriculture, or what we sometimes refer to as traditional agriculture, has come a long way since the days of horse drawn plows and hand labor. Improvements in technology and cutting edge research have allowed farmers to produce more food and fiber products on smaller acreages while still maintaining the tranquility of the rural landscape.

Tickets are still available for the Oswego Firefighters annual Charity Ball to be held on April 9 at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center. This is a great chance for the public to come out and support your local firefighters and have a great time while giving back to the community.
