During the week of April 10 – 16, communities and victim service providers across the United States hosted events and campaigns in recognition of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. The goal of this awareness week is to promote victims’ rights and honor crime victims and those who advocate on their behalf.
Oswego Renaissance Association founder and director Paul Stewart was this week’s guest at Oswego Rotary. Stewart updated members on the 2016 grants currently available to residents who qualify living in the city of Oswego.
The Children’s Room at the Oswego Public library offers free story hour, crafts, and snacks for children. Story hours take place on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and Fridays at 10:30 a.m.

To help residents improve their health status, Oswego Health is offering free workshops developed by Stanford University. The healthy living classes will be held on Mondays, starting May 9 and ending June 20, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at Oswego Hospital’s medical affairs conference room.
Students from SUNY Oswego’s Adopt-A-Grandparent Program have had an active year engaging with residents at St. Francis Commons Assisted Living Residence. The Adopt-A-Grandparent Program connects students with senior adults in the community through programs and activities.
Oswego Health and Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists announce a collaboration, which will bring SOS orthopedic surgeons to Oswego County to provide care. The SOS staff will work alongside Oswego Health’s orthopedic team to provide office visits at the Oswego Health Services Center and perform surgeries in Oswego Hospital’s surgery center.
As part of the “Oswego Lighthouse: A Community Arts Project,” the H. Lee White Maritime Museum at Oswego will host a youth art workshop entitled “Sailor Sam Saves the Lighthouse! Intro to Illustration” on April 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. in partnership with the Children’s Museum of Oswego. This event is appropriate for children ages 5 to10 years old.
As Americans celebrate National Library Week, State Senator Patty Ritchie announced that the new state budget includes a $9 million boost in funding for libraries, an investment that will increase and enhance learning opportunities statewide for patrons.
Running and women’s advocate Kathrine Switzer, a member of the National Women’s Hall of Fame, will speak at 6 p.m. April 26, in Sheldon Hall ballroom. Switzer will appear on behalf of the Bob ’78 and Robbi Feinberg Family Fund series, which this year features presentations on sports and gender.
