A field of 42 teams took to the links for a day of golf and fun in the 20th Annual United Way Golf Tournament, held recently at the Oswego Country Club.

This year, 63 individuals are serving youth in Oswego County through the Oswego AmeriCorps program. AmeriCorps, a national service program, addresses critical needs in local communities. Members in Oswego AmeriCorps provide mentoring, fitness activities, nutrition education and manage volunteers.
Members of the United Way of Greater Oswego County’s Campaign Cabinet have begun planning the agenda for one of Oswego County’s most impactful events, the United Way’s Annual Campaign Kick Off Breakfast. Scheduled for September 16, the event will be held from 8 – 9 a.m. at the American Foundry, 246 W. Seneca St. (behind Fajita Grill on Route 104 West) in Oswego.
Founded in 1919, Zonta International is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. The local Zonta Club was first chartered as Zonta Club of Oswego in June 1955.

The new employees, who will join the OCO’s staff of human services professionals, recently completed the agency’s orientation process and will begin to serve consumers in their respective programs.

Due to the number of worthy candidates for this year’s scholarship, the selection committee for the PJC Muriel Allerton Scholarship Award chose two deserving students.

The Oswego County Legislature proclaimed July 26 as Americans with Disabilities Awareness Day to promote education about advocacy, resources and services available to county residents. The Legislature’s Human Services Committee presented the certificate to members of Oswego ARISE.
Oswego County Clerk Michael C. Backus thanked members of the public for their patience during a recent period of limited window service at the three DMV offices in Oswego County. Due to a spike in auto sales around Memorial Day, the three DMV offices had to temporarily limit window service in order to process paperwork. The dealer transactions increased sharply over a 3-month period from March through May over the previous year.
