SUNY Geneseo Announces President’s List for Spring 2015

Several area residents have been named to the Deans’ List for the spring 2015 semester at SUNY Oswego. To be included on the Deans’ List, students must have a semester grade average of 3.30 to 3.79.
Bishop’s Commons Enriched Living Residence in Oswego will host an informational forum open to the public entitled “Understanding Advanced Care Planning and Estate Planning Essentials,” presented by local attorney Sara E. Davis and Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc. financial planner Randy Zeigler.
The Fair Haven Chamber chooses Turtle Cove Restaurant as its business of the month for June for participating the revitalization of the west side. When Colleen and Brian met at Bailey’s restaurant and bar in 1989, in Exton, Pa., they were both in restaurant management. They opened restaurants, trained staff, and generally ran the operations from inventory to customer service. Over the next 22 years, they and later on their two boys, lived in Fair Haven on and off.
Thomas Anthis was hired as a commercial lines insurance broker at Eastern Shore Associates Insurance (ESA) it was announced by Martha Murray, president. Anthis will be in ESA’s North Syracuse office at 401 S. Main St.
At a recent Fulton Sunrise meeting, Rotarian Dan Farfaglia introduced Ellen Marshall, owner and instructor of Off Broadway Dance Center. Teaching children to dance for 18 years now, Off Broadway Dance Center is proud to have more than 175 students each year. Dance classes include Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Lyrical, Hip-Hop and Creative Dance.
The Country Cruizers Car Club presented a donation of $1,000 to the Hannibal Chapter of Dollars for Scholars for two scholarships. The Hannibal chapter raises money through various fundraising activities, most notably the annual Ducks over the Dam race, which will be held July 19.
It’s getting into the dog days of summer. We know our readers would never leave their dog(s) in a car because they are aware of the dangers of overheating and death. They know that cracking the windows does not prevent deadly heat buildup inside a car and that even on a relatively mild 70 degree day, the inside of a car will quickly reach 90 degrees. But do you know what to do if you see someone else’s dog alone in a car on a hot day?
Herkimer College awarded academic honors to 480 students for the spring 2015 semester. Of those students awarded honors, 184 were named to the President’s List for earning a grade point average of 3.80 or higher.
For the 28th consecutive year, Oswego Harborfest will bring thousands of festival-goers to town from July 23 through July 26. However, as always the festival success depends not only on the talent, entertainment and food, but also the contributions of volunteer individuals who are an integral part of the annual event. Once again, volunteers are needed to provide a variety of important responsibilities.
