The American Red Cross of Central New York will host a Babysitter’s Training class for youth ages 11 to 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 20 at the Red Cross office at 333 W. First St., Oswego. Babysitting is often a teenager’s first business.

JP Jewelers recently provided the H. Lee White Maritime Museum with a donation of a portion of the proceeds from sales of hand-engraved sterling silver Oswego West Pierhead Lighthouse charms. Each charm is crafted at JP Jewelers’ 136 W. Bridge St. location by Leanne Joice-Gillen, a local artist and goldsmith with more than 30 years of on-the-bench experience.

Nicholas Little, a first-year teacher at Fitzhugh Park Elementary School in Oswego, has engaged his fifth grade students throughout the school year to better understand and utilize technology for educational purposes.

Get in touch with your inner artist with Lakeside Artisans’ Tim Ames at a paint nite on June 22, in the Community Room at Canal Commons. The create-your-own-masterpiece event, hosted by Lakeside Artisans, will run from 7-9:30 p.m.

The Oswego County Health department offers a variety of services to all residents of Oswego County, including preventive health services, certified home health care, certified hospice, and a maternal and child health program.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt allowed 982 refugees who survived Nazi reign into the country as his “guests” with the Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Shelter becoming their home from August 1944 to February 1946. The museum tells the story of their voyage to America, their arrival in Oswego, their interaction with the city residents and the life-long friendships developed during their stay.

Bridget Dolbear, program services coordinator for Oswego County Opportunities, has announced that OCO is participating in the Summer Food Service Program again this year. Each year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture partners with local organizations like OCO to provide free meals to children when school is out for the summer.

The State University of New York at Potsdam recently named 367 students who excelled academically in the Spring 2015 semester to the College’s Dean’s List.
