H. Lee White Maritime Museum Receives Donation from JP Jewelers

JP Jewelers recently provided the H. Lee White Maritime Museum with a donation of a portion of the proceeds from sales of hand-engraved sterling silver Oswego West Pierhead Lighthouse charms. Each charm is crafted at JP Jewelers’ 136 W. Bridge St. location by Leanne Joice-Gillen, a local artist and goldsmith with more than 30 years of on-the-bench experience.

Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum Holds Open House June 20 and 21

President Franklin D. Roosevelt allowed 982 refugees who survived Nazi reign into the country as his “guests” with the Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Shelter becoming their home from August 1944 to February 1946. The museum tells the story of their voyage to America, their arrival in Oswego, their interaction with the city residents and the life-long friendships developed during their stay.

OCO Summer Food Service Program Providing Free Meals for Oswego County Children

Bridget Dolbear, program services coordinator for Oswego County Opportunities, has announced that OCO is participating in the Summer Food Service Program again this year. Each year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture partners with local organizations like OCO to provide free meals to children when school is out for the summer.
