Merit awards and senior scholarships/awards were presented, as well as junior incentive scholarships to area colleges and universities. More than 250 scholarships/awards were presented to Oswego High School students, amounting to almost $800,000.

The Oswego High vs. Oswego Middle School faculty flag football game was held recently at Joe Wilber Field in Oswego.

After announcing the top readers during a morning assembly, the top 14 participants in the Accelerated Readers program gathered outside with Principal Jean Ciesla and school librarian Barb Senecal and were treated to pizza and ice cream.

Students named to the Newberry College Dean’s List have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for the semester.

To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must achieve an average of 3.0 to 3.99 for the semester and complete 12 credit hours.

Seniors enrolled in the Public Safety and Justice program at the Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation were recently saluted for their efforts during a year-end recognition ceremony. Throughout the school year, teachers Jim Garcia, Charles Gabriel and Mark Bender taught the students law enforcement, firefighting and EMS skills as part of hands-on learning.

Thirty young adults with Bike & Build Inc., a national non-profit committed to affordable housing, are bicycling into Palermo on their journey across the United States. The cyclists, as part of the Northern US route, are traveling from Portsmouth, NH to Vancouver, BC to raise money and awareness for affordable housing causes.

Assemblyman Will Barclay recently presented the board members of the Safe Haven Museum and Education Center with a resolution memorializing Holocaust Remembrance Day.

At the end of each sports season the New York State Public High School Athletic Association honors those teams that excel in the classroom. To achieve this academic honor, a percentage of the team’s roster must have an average of 90% or greater.
