Sounds of Science filled the Fairley Elementary School gymnasium recently as electric violinist Caryn Lin delighted students with her high-energy show that combined music with science. The performance, brought to the Hannibal Central School District through a partnership with the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation’s Arts-in-Education service, was met with rave reviews from the students.

For nearly two decades, Carol Burch has used her passion for learning, expertise and charisma to inspire students. She has participated in professional development opportunities, engaged in enriching educational discussions and completed hours of intensive course-related work in her pursuit of becoming a Master Teacher.

The visitors, Sawyer and Charlotte, along with their owners Marjorie Wentworth and Connie Evans visited the school to talk about the rescue service that Paws provides for animals in Oswego County and the assistance that Paws gives to other shelters and animal welfare organizations in the county.

Nearly five dozen John C. Birdlebough High School students were recently in the spotlight for exhibiting academic excellence, work ethic, effort and discipline during the second marking period. According to JCB Principal Greg Molloy, who presented the awards, the honorees each displayed qualities and character traits that had a positive impact on students and staff alike.

Kindergarten screening will be held on June 26, 29 and 30 at the APW Elementary School and appointments for children may be made at pre-screening.

Resource Development Director for the United Way of Greater Oswego County Ali McGrath met with Joanne McKinney of Joe’s Corner Market, Bill Hubel of Blue Moon Grill, and Kathy Hotaling of Kathy’s Cakes and Specialty Treats to finalize the menu for the United Way’s aeventh annual ‘Stone Soup Too’ Luncheon.

The CNY Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will host the second annual “Stomp out Stigma” fundraiser at the American Foundry April 17. The event will feature a live auction, line-dancing lessons and music by WOLF 101.5 and the band Driftwater.

New York State Police investigator Mike Buck, Homeland Security Investigations agent Andy McCoy and U.S. Border Patrol agent Jim Napoli discussed some of their job requirements and responsibilities.
