In conjunction with the Fulton City School District’s implementation of the Positive Behavior, Interventions and Supports initiative, Fairgrieve holds monthly award assemblies to recognize students whose actions exemplify positive character traits. One student from each class is selected as an “expectation expert.”
Several Michael A Maroun kindergarteners and first graders were recognized for their display of responsibility during the month of January. Each student received an ice cream coupon valid at the school cafeteria as an award. Peer support shown through as the applause rang through the room as each student was called.
The Oswego Elks Lodge will host Ontario District Elks Major Projects (Cerebral Palsy) fundraiser on Saturday, in conjunction with Warm Up Oswego. “Long Time Coming” has donated its time for this special cause.
The Oswego County Legislature’s Public Safety Committee presented Fred Ferguson with a certificate of appreciation for his 20 years of service to the county. Ferguson is a cook manager with the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office.

February is National Teen Dating Violence Prevention and Awareness Month. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 1.5 million high school students experience physical abuse from a dating partner in a single year. One in three teens in the US will be a victim of physical, emotional or sexual abuse from a dating partner.
History was recently made during a physical education class at John C. Birdlebough High School, as a select group of students braved bitter cold temperatures and steady snow fall to become the first to participate in a snowshoeing exercise.
APW has created a BackPack Program, which has the goal of providing students who have been identified by the district to be at risk of hunger on weekends with a bag of nutritious food each Friday throughout the school year.

The Phoenix Central School District has installed a new visitor management system in each of their schools to ensure the safety of every student. The equipment is called the Raptor Visitor Management System. The equipment will track individuals entering each school building, keep unwanted visitors at bay and aid in safety alert systems.
