SUNY Oswego recently earned a highly competitive grant from 100,000 Strong in the Americas to train students here and in Brazil to implement a health-and-wellness program to fight childhood obesity in both countries.

With the appointment of SUNY Oswego philosophy professor K. Brad Wray as co-editor, the journal Metascience now calls the college its headquarters. A noted scholar in the philosophy of science, Wray has begun a five-year term as co-editor with Australian scholar Luciano Boschiero.

Vendors and businesses simply don’t arrive at the annual Oswego Harborfest celebration and set up their concessions or information booths. It takes months of logistical planning to organize Breitbeck, the Novelis Family Park at West Park, East Park as well as the river walk.

For 14 SUNY Oswego students, winter break brought a crash course in physical theater and Russian culture during an inspiring — and intense — three-week trip to Moscow. Henry Shikongo and Jonel Langenfeld of the college’s theater faculty led the group on the visit to the Moscow Art Theatre, home to rigorous training in acrobatics, fencing, unarmed combat, stage movement, voice, improvisation and more.

Full-time students who complete a minimum of 12 credit hours and achieve a semester grade-point average of at least 3.5 with no grades of D, F, Incomplete or Pass/Fail are eligible for the Dean’s List.

The Oswego City School District is gearing up to welcome next year’s class of Pre-Kindergarten students, and applications for the Oswego City School District Universal Pre-Kindergarten program are now available. This program is designed for children who were born between December 2, 2010, and December 1, 2011, and is offered at no cost to children who are selected by lottery.

The Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Junior/Senior High School drama department will perform “Cinderella” onstage on March 13 and 14 in the high school auditorium at 7 both nights. The show is under the direction of MaryAnn House, assisted by Lee Teachout. The public is invited to attend this fairy tale musical classic.

An Oswego resident has been awarded approximately $17,500 per year for the “Excellence in Education Scholarship” to attend Alfred State. Alaina Celeste of Oswego is slated to graduate in 2015 from Oswego High School and intends to enroll in the mechanical engineering technology program.
