SUNY Oswego’s registrar, Jerret LeMay, has been appointed to a two-year term on a customer advisory board at Ellucian serving the Degree Works community. Degree Works is degree-planning software that gives students a visually informative tool to stay on course for graduation. Oswego students and their faculty advisers began using Degree Works two years ago.
The Chili Pepper Scavenger Hunt is set to kick off on Jan. 31 and run through Feb. 7 at participating locations in Oswego as part of the 10th annual Warm Up Oswego Festival. Participants will receive a “passport” along with a map of the city of Oswego. The “passport” contains the full list of the 42 participating locations.

Eagle Beverage will ensure that those attending the fourth annual Child Advocacy Center Chicken Wing Fest will have a wide selection to choose from. Eagle Beverage will be providing samples of a number of not only brews but hard ciders and wine as well. “We are happy announce that we are expanding the beverage samples for this year’s chicken wing fest,” said Karrie Damm, executive director of the CAC.
These students join a select group of only 250 students from all over the country honored with the opportunity for an intensive study of leadership in environmental science and conservation. They were chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in leadership in the sciences and conservation studies.
The Phoenix Central School District has some blooming artistic talent in their fourth graders. Students from four different classes voluntarily spend their lunch period in Kathleen Lambert’s art room working on a variety of different independent projects.
Students at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Junior High School recently held an exchange concert with junior high students from the Sherburne-Earlville School District. The concert was coordinated between APW’s band director Janet Fiacco and Sherburne-Earlville’s Middle School band director Jeffrey Manwaring.
Third graders at Leighton Elementary School did something special for an impoverished community this past holiday season. They had been reflecting on their ELA and Social Studies unit theme, which talked about how communities help each other learn and grow, and the importance of learning, in general.
Volney Elementary School classroom role models were selected by their teachers as students who best represented this month’s character education trait of Tolerance. Principal Lisa Garafola defined tolerance as accepting others’ differences and announced the following students as outstanding examples of that trait for the month of January:
In the Hannibal Central School District, progressive thinking, innovative strategies and a team mentality have taken hold since the implementation of the Strategic Plan last June. The plan outlines the mission, beliefs and goals for the district over the next five years, and has been fueled by the work of community members, teachers, students, staff and administrators.
