Finalists Selected For 2014 ‘Next Great Idea’ $25,000 Oswego County Business Plan Competition

Bookbrawl.com, Music Instrument Covers, Ontario Soap Company and Party & Play Cafe have been selected as the four finalists for the 2014 Next Great Idea Oswego County Business Plan Competition- it was announced by Austin Wheelock, chair of the NGI steering committee. On Nov. 13, each finalist will give a 20-minute presentation on their business plan in-person to the panel of judges.

Oswego County Opportunities’ Services to Aid Families program is the domestic violence and rape crisis program serving Oswego County. The Oswego City Police Department supports SAF in the achievement of this goal and to help raise awareness, each marked patrol car at the Oswego City Police Department will display a purple ribbon throughout the month of October.

I was in a pet store the other day, They had the most gorgeous Golden Retriever puppies for sale, about 7 weeks old. I know that a lot of puppies in pet stores come from puppy mills and I would not support that, so I asked and the owner assured me that all of her puppies come from local breeders and if I bought one, she would give me the paperwork. What do you think?

Oswego faculty poet’s ‘Watershed’ rises on observation, perseverance

DSS Goes Purple for Domestic Violence Month

In recognition of October being Domestic Violence Month, employees from the Oswego County Department of Social Services donned purple shirts, to raise awareness of domestic violence in Oswego County and support the efforts of Oswego County Opportunities’ Services to Aid Families program. To raise awareness and funds for SAF, DSS Senior Social Welfare Examiner Stephanie Hoxie, along with senior team members Linda Rebbette and Jackie Koster, coordinated a drive to sell purple T-shirts emblazoned with “Break the Silence…Stop the Violence” to DSS employees.

NYS Barge Canal Listed on National Register of Historic Places

The National Park Service today (Oct. 22) announced that it has listed the New York State Barge Canal on the National Register of Historic Places. The designation recognizes the New York State Canal System as a nationally significant work of early twentieth century engineering and construction that affected transportation and maritime commerce for nearly half a century.
