Charlene Purchas, of Parish, daughter of Dawn Purchas of Parish, has enrolled in Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf, the nation’s first and largest technological college for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Purchas is a 2014 graduate of Mexico High School in Mexico.
SUNY Oswego has teamed with SRC Inc. to deliver a customized MBA degree program to employees of the research and development company at its North Syracuse offices. More than 30 SRC employees began taking classes toward the master of business administration at SRC, from pre-MBA foundational courses to electives and core classes.
The cast of the upcoming Oswego Players’ production of “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” is busy preparing the mystery drama for a Halloween opening night performance. Under the direction of Troy Pepper, the play was adapted for the stage by Richard Abbott from the famous story by Robert Louis Stevenson.
The OHS Softball Players and Parents Association. will hold its annual fall rummage sale on October 18 from 9 a.m. – noon at the Oswego High School cafeteria. Hundreds of household items, clothing, sporting goods, holiday decorations and much, much more will be priced to sell.
The Oswego County Legislature’s Infrastructure, Facilities and Technology Committee presented David Green with a certificate of appreciation for his 28 years of service to the county. Green was a heavy equipment operator/Highway Worker III with the Oswego County Highway Department.
An ad on advanced manufacturing, produced by Steve Chirello Advertising, earned first place at the Northeastern Economic Developers Association’s 2014 literature and promotions competition for client Operation Oswego County.
G. Ray Bodley High School Principal Donna Parkhurst announced that MaKenna Cealie has been named a Commended Student in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, was presented by Parkhurst to the scholastically talented student at the school.
For the month of October which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Recognizing Oswego County is seeking nominations in the area of Cancer Awareness and Prevention. A potential nominee might be an agency that provides free cancer screenings or an individual who advocates about the importance of cancer prevention. Nominations are due by October 9.
“Every Dog Has Its Day” on October 19 when the Oswego County Humane Society holds its annual 5K run or walk and 1 mile family walk at Fallbrook Recreation Center, 103 Thompson Road, with sign in starting at 11 a.m. and races starting at noon. Dogs are welcome and each one will receive its own dog scarf. In addition to the run and walk, there will be children’s activities and games, face painting, an airhop inflatable, pet contests and a kids only silent auction.
Oswego County Legislator James Karasek, District 22, Granby and Fulton, was honored by the New York State Association of Counties upon his graduation from the NYSAC Dennis A. Pelletier County Government Institute. The ceremony was held Sept. 23, during the 2014 NYSAC Fall Seminar in Buffalo.
