The annual turkey supper and bazaar will be Saturday at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.
Serving will be 4 to 7 p.m. The supper will be turkey and all the fixins’.
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), a division of SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations, is now accepting registrations for “Six Steps to Better Balance,” a six-step approach developed by Betty Perkins-Carpenter, Ph.D., senior fitness productions. “Dr. Betty” is a nationally renowned expert on falls prevention who has made improving balance easy for everyone.
The physicians and staff of Oswego Health will take part in activities throughout October that promote national Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Perhaps the most important action community members can take is to encourage the women they know to have a mammogram.
The city of Oswego along with the Oswego Firefighters’ IAFF Local #126 have begun their in-house campaigns in support of United Way. The United Way’s annual campaign has a tremendous impact on the health and well-being of communities throughout Oswego County.

The Oswego County Health Department is offering influenza immunization clinics for people age 19 and older weekdays at the Nick Sterio Public Health Clinic, 70 Bunner St., Oswego. Adult influenza clinics are held from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.
Carolyn Handville, coordinator for the OCO Cancer Services Program Partnership, has made appearances throughout the community disseminating information on the free clinical breast exams, mammograms and other free cancer screenings including pap/pelvic exams and colorectal cancer screenings that are offered through the CSPP. The Cancer Services Program and the Pulaski Health Center’s efforts to raise awareness of breast cancer will culminate on October 25 when they form the fifth annual Human Pink Ribbon in Oswego County.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Oswego County Opportunities’ Services to Aid Families program is the domestic violence and rape crisis program that serves Oswego County. The goal of SAF is to raise awareness of the epidemic of domestic violence in Oswego country and to educate individuals on the impact of domestic violence in its communities.
There are 19 food pantries and soup kitchens in Oswego County that work in partnership with a number of churches, businesses and civic organizations, RSVP included, to provide a community “safety net” to address the issues of hunger in Oswego County through direct service and advocacy.
