SCRIBA – On Friday, May 8th, 2026 at approximately 17:55 hours Scriba was activated along with mutual aid for a reported structure fire on State Route 104. First arriving Sheriff Deputies reported a double wide home with fire at the back of the home. First arriving Assistant Chief Nellis was able to utilize a dry chemical extinguisher to extinguish the flames which were located around an air conditioning unit on the exterior of the home.
Due to the quick actions of Assistant Chief Nellis, damage to the home was limited to the area of origin. Due to the location of the damage to the home, the occupants could not re-occupy until repairs can be made to the home’s electrical system. They were assisted with temporary housing by Red Cross.
Scriba was assisted on scene by Oswego County Sheriff’s, Novelis Fire, Oswego City Fire, New Haven Fire, and Menter Ambulance. One individual was arrested on scene for circumstances not related to the cause of the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Oswego County Fire Investigation Team.
Scriba and New Haven Fire had cleared a two vehicle MVA with reports of entrapment shortly before being dispatched to this structure fire.
